About Documents Compass
Documents Compass is a non-profit organization, formed in 2007 by two Documentary Editors who recognized the need to provide tools for bringing their works to the Internet in a rapidly changing environment. They established this service provider to create an intermediary between the scholar/editor and the publisher. They were joined in 2008 by a lifelong librarian/academic publisher who added to their experience pool.

Documents Compass will provide for the future of electronic editions by creating a set of standards and practices. It will centralize and regularize those aspects of electronic publication that are most vexing for editors and expensive for publishers. It will save the best of the past for the benefit of the future. They operate under the auspices of The Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, which provides support and operational overview to Documents Compass activities.
