Documents Compass is a non-profit organization. It was formed in 2007 by two Documentary Editors who recognized the need to provide tools for bringing their works to the Internet in a rapidly changing environment. They established this service provider to create an intermediary between the scholar/editor and the publisher. They were joined in 2008 by a librarian/academic publisher who added to their experience pool. They are a part of The Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.
Susan Holbrook Perdue, Director, was formerly the Senior Associate Editor of the Papers of Thomas Jefferson: Retirement Series, where she was heavily involved with the development of the project’s content management and tagging systems.
