About the Project
Documents Compass is working on a pilot project with the National Historical Publications and Records Commission to publish on Rotunda (the electronic imprint of the University of Virginia Press) a collection of the as yet unpublished documents collected by the papers of the Founding Fathers.
To date these editions have included the Papers of James Madison and John Adams. The goal of Early Acess is to provide the American public, including the editors themselves, scholars, educators, students, and the general public, with access to those document that have not yet entered the final stages of the full editorial process: professional scholarly editing and annotation. The Documents Compass staff has given every document at least one initial proofreading, and tagged it for rudimentary searching including author and recipient and dates. Early Access is meant to provide the American people with a major portion of the correspondence of their six founding fathers.
